Gafachi Communications Unveils T.38 Fax Support
Gafachi Communications announced today that they are now offering T.38 fax support, as a part of their wholesale voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) termination and origination services. Reliable T.38 support has thus far been a highly, sought-after feature, absent from the majority of wholesale VoIP carriers.
The ability to send and receive faxes is a feature that is often taken for granted with traditional Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS). This, however, is not the case in the emerging IP telephony market, as many VoIP users are discovering that fax support is a rare commodity.
Many VoIP carriers currently support only the G.711 method of fax. While successful faxing is possible by these means, it is not very reliable. Reliable faxing is accomplished through the use of T.38: the standard set forth by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) for sending faxes across IP networks.
"Very rarely does one solution fit all and never is this more true, than in the VoIP world," said Adam Glynn, Chief Technology Officer of Gafachi. "That is why we (Gafachi) have tailored our fax support to accommodate the many needs of our customers." Gafachi allows their customers to choose from three modes of fax support, through their on-line, customer portal.
As service providers, enterprises, and call centers make the switch to VoIP, they demand the quality and support afforded to them by their traditional phone carriers. Gafachi's decision to proactively address the issue of fax support represents the type of actions needed, to make VoIP a dominant force in telecom.
